KL Academy of Polo is delighted to announce our engagement of Amir Zulkelfe as a riding instructor in the equestrian section at the Royal Selangor Polo Club.

Amir first started riding at the age of nine at the Johor Horse Trail Riding Centre. At age 14, Amir was talent spotted and joined the Bukit Jalil Sports School as a student in the equestrian section. Amir graduated from the school in 2003 and immediately went to Australia to further his equestrian studies with Australian Olympian George Sanna at Chatham Park, NSW, for two years.

Returning to Malaysia in 2005, Amir competed in the South East Asian Eventing League, qualifying for the Asian Games as one of the top four Malaysian riders. Amir evented at the 2006 Doha Asian Games, representing Malaysia, finishing fifth, riding Yien Yien Pua’s horse Aachen.

In 2006, as part of the Malaysian team, Amir was a winner at the CSI-1* Young Rider Show Jumping International in Pune, India. Amir was also a competitor in the CSI-W Young Rider World Cup Jumping series in Malaysia from 2005 to 2007.

Amir also represented Malaysia at the 2007 South East Asian Games in Thailand, eventing the EAM owned horse, Serious Fun, where he won team silver and individual bronze medals. Amir won the Young Rider of the Year Award in 2007, which was presented by HRH Sultan Mizan, the Yang di-Pertuan Agong of Malaysia.

Amir gained his certification in Australia as an Equestrian Australia Level 1 General Instructor and Level 1 Dressage Specialist Instructor. He also has a Level 1 Sports Science qualification from the United States Sports Academy and National Sports Institute.

Amir was overseas for eight years as the Singapore Turf Club Riding Centre employed him as a Riding Instructor from 2011 till 2018.

We are delighted to have Amir back in Malaysia.  He joins KL Academy of Polo on a two-year contract.
