Tent Pegging Clinic and Cup

Learn the ancient and traditional art of Tent Pegging. Born on the battlefields of Central Asia, Tent-Pegging is now an international sport. Peter Abisheganaden, a three-time Tent Pegging champion, will teach the fundamentals of the sport.

Clinic: Thursday 22nd August at 5:30 pm on stick and ball ground.

Cup: Saturday 24th August at 6:00 pm after the RSPC Open Final.

Cost: RM50 per participant includes entry to Tent Pegging Cup on Saturday 24th August, after the final of the RSPC Open Polo.

The Rules & Scoring:

Strike             A touch of the peg, dislodging it but not lifting it                2 points

Hit                  Lifting the peg but not carrying it full distance                    4 points

Carry             Carrying the peg for at least 15 meters                                   6 points

  1. Runs will be made from the 60-yard line at the scoreboard end to 60 yard line of the apartment end.
  2. Speed is set at 650 m/m.
  3. Runs must be to be completed in 15 seconds. Competitors are penalised ½ point for each second over.
  4. The Starter will flag off each competitor individually.
  5. Competitors will wait for their turn near the scoreboard.
  6. Each competitor will make three runs. Highest total points wins.
  7. In the event of a tie after three runs, the competition will go into a sudden death phase, till there is a winner. However, no horse may make more than 10 runs. In the event that a winner is not decided by then, all tied competitors will then be declared joint winners.
  8. Competitors may not share horses.
  9. Fancy dress is encouraged, but competitors must comply with club rules on proper footwear and helmets for riding.
  10. If the ground is too wet, the competition will be held on the sand track.
