Kuala Lumpur Academy of Polo is pleased to announce the creation of the 1st Malaysia Youth Polo Tournament.  This tournament is an age group polo tournament, for youth 21 years old and under.  Originally scheduled to be played on 18th 19th December at The Selangor Polo Club, it has now been postponed to 4th to 6th March 2022.

The 1st Malaysia Youth Polo Tournament is sanctioned by the Royal Malaysian Polo Association, and organized by the Kuala Lumpur Academy of Polo Sdn Bhd.  Youth players wishing to play sign up as individuals, and are sorted into teams by the tournament committee.  Players must organize their own horses, either by private arrangement, or with KL Academy of Polo, which has a number of horses available available for hire.

This tournament will be used as a vehicle to help raise money to save the Malayan Tigers, through the World Wildlife Fund.  A portion of every player’s entry fee shall be donated to WWF.

Regulations

1 November 2021

 

1. 1^st MALAYSIA YOUTH POLO TOURNAMENT

The 1^st Malaysia Youth Polo Tournament is an age group polo tournament organized and run by Kuala Lumpur Academy of Polo Sdn Bhd (KLAP), played at the The Selangor Polo Club.  It is sanctioned by the Royal Malaysian Polo Association and the Federation of International Polo.

2. PATRON

The Patron of the 1^st Malaysia Youth Polo Tournament is Y.A.M. Tengku Dato’ Seri Baderul Zaman Ibni Almarhum Sultan Mahmud.

 

3. TOURNAMENT ORGANISING COMMITTEE (TOC)

3.1       The Tournament Organising Committee shall comprise

3.2       The TOC shall appoint a Tournament Director (TD) who shall be responsible for the day-to-day organization of the tournament.

1. For the 1^st Malaysia Youth Polo Tournament, the Tournament Director shall be Peter Ibrahim Abisheganaden.

3.3       The Chairman shall have the power to invite team captains and other individuals to attend TOC meetings.

3.4       The TD and KLAP shall be in charge of the day-to-day running of the tournament and shall keep track and publish all results and of all matches and tournament results.

 

 

4. DIVISIONS

4.1       There may be one or two divisions of the 1^st Malaysia Youth Polo Tournament to be decided by the TD, upon entries.  This shall be either by age or by ability.

4.2       The dates of the tournaments are Friday 4^th March through Sunday 6^th March 2022.

 

5. ENTRIES & DECLARATIONS

5.1       The 1^st Malaysia Youth Polo Tournament shall be limited in entry to youth under the age of 21.  Only players born on or after 7^th March 2000 may enter this tournament.

5.2       Entries shall be submitted using the official entry form, and submitted to KLAP by Friday 18th February 2022.

5.3       The entry fee is RM500 per player and must be paid upon submission of entry.

5.4       Late entries are accepted at the discretion of the TOC, and is subject to a Late Entry Penalty of 50% of the full entry fee, if accepted.

5.5       Entries are accepted at the discretion of the TOC.  No reasons shall be given for non-acceptance.

5.6       Players who are in default with TSPC or KLAP may not participate.

5.7       Submission of a signed waiver (see appendix) is a requirement of entry.

5.8       There shall be no refunds on tournament entry fees unless an entry is not accepted, in which case the entry fee will be returned in full.

 

6. HANDICAPPING

6.1       Any player participating in the 1^st Malaysia Youth Polo Tournament shall play off their current RMPA Handicap if handicapped in Malaysia, or if not on the Malaysian Handicap list, then their highest handicap from a recognized polo association or club.

6.2       In the event that a player does not hold a handicap, this player shall be allocated a temporary handicap of -3 by the TOC for the purposes of this tournament only.

 

7. TEAMS

7.1       The TD shall make up and recommend teams to the TOC, who shall have the final say on teams.

7.2       No appeals on team composition shall be considered.

7.3       A Team Coach/Manager will be assigned to each team.

7.4       A draw for playing order, if applicable, shall take place approximately (3) days before the start of the tournament.  All team captains and team managers shall be invited to attend the draw.

 

8. HORSES

8.1       Teams shall be responsible for providing their own horses, stabling, floating and incidental related costs.

8.2      Each player is limited to one horse per match.  This horse can only be changed with the permission of the Tournament Director, it is lame or has some other health or safety issue.

8.3      Any horses entering TSPC for this event must comply with DVS and TSPC regulations regarding vaccinations and movement of horses.

8.4      There shall be no cross-over of horses between teams at each tournament unless approval is given by the TD.

 

9. PLAYING REGULATIONS

9.1       The 1^st Malaysia Youth Polo Tournament played under current Hurlingham Polo Association Rules, except where specifically modified in these regulations.

9.2       Umpire(s) must be approved by the TOC and engaged by KLAP for the tournament.

9.3       All games shall be played with at least one umpire.

9.4       Elbow Guards and safety eyewear, knee guards and boots are mandatory for all players in this tournament.

9.5       Matches shall be played over two chukkas.

9.6       Each chukka shall be limited to six (6 minutes) with a further 30 seconds to the second bell, if applicable.

9.7       There shall be a break of at least 15 minutes between chukkas of the same game.

9.8      Matches may be played using handicaps or open, as the TOC decides.

9.9       Each team would be formatted to play on two days of the tournament, and not on all days.

 

10. FORMATS AND ORDER OF PLAY

10.1     The TD shall devise formats of play that shall be used in all divisions.

10.2     The TD and TOC shall have the discretion to change the format of play even after the tournament has started, if the tournament if affected by the weather.

10.3     No draws are allowed, except in final order of merit round-robin matches.

10.4     Drawn games will be decided by a penalty shoot-out to be held immediately after the final bell.  The penalty shoot-out to decide the outcome of games shall be as follows:

1. Each player takes one penalty each at 30 yards.
2. If scores are tied, the shoot-out goes into sudden-death at 40 yards.
3. Teams may not change the sequence of penalty takers.
4. Teams may not substitute players during a penalty shoot-out.
5. All penalties shall be undefended.

10.5     Matches that are abandoned because of the weather shall be considered completed if more than half of the match was played with the score recorded as final when the match was stopped.

 

11. ORDER OF MERIT & POINTS SYSTEM

11.1      If a league system is used, teams tied on points shall be separated by the who-beat-who rule, with the winner of their match together going above the loser in that zone and/or league.

11.2     In the event that the who-beat-who rule cannot be applied to define an order of merit, goal difference shall be used, and if that is tied, then goal difference will be recalculated without handicap goals.

 

11.3     League Points are awarded per game on the scale as follows:

1. Three (3) points for an outright game win in regulation time.
2. Two (2) points for a win by penalty shoot-out.
3. One (1) point for a loss by penalty shoot-out.
4. No points for an outright loss in regulation time.

 

12. COVID-19 S.O.P.’s

12.1     This tournament shall only be played providing Kuala Lumpur remains in Phase 3 or Phase 4 of Covid-19 status.

12.2     All players must be fully vaccinated, and must have completed the post vaccination period relevant for their vaccine. Proof of vaccination must be submitted upon entry.

12.3     All players shall also declare any family members or staff (e.g. driver or guardian) who what be accompanying them during this tournament.  All persons entering TSPC or the 1^st Malaysia Youth Polo Tournament shall be fully vaccinated.

12.4     Every person entering TSPC and KLAP must use MySejahtera to check-in when coming to our stables or office, or the clubhouse.

12.5     Any person whose temperature exceeds 37.5* Celcius will not be allowed to participate and will be isolated, and asked to go home.

12.6     Disinfectant and Sanitizer Use – All players, staff and any visitors must use the hand sanitizer or Equi-Shield every time they enter clubhouse or KLAP office.

12.7     Masks – All players, staff and visitors must wear masks while in TSPC except where explicitly allowed by the club or under these rules.

12.8     Masks may be removed while riding and playing.

12.9     There shall be no sharing of helmets or any other equipment between players. All players must have their own equipment and will not be allowed to loan any equipment from KL Academy of Polo or anyone else.

12.10   Mandatory Use of Gloves – all players must use their own gloves when riding and playing.

12.11    Disinfecting Reins and Saddles after all rides – all KLAP saddlery used will be disinfected with Equi-Shield after every ride.

12.12   There will be twice daily Disinfecting of Stable Areas, Tack Room, Office and General Areas used by KL Academy of Polo, and the clubhouse, will be done before and after each playing session.

 

13. SPONSORSHIPS & PARTNERSHIPS

13.1     KLAP reserves the right to seek sponsors and partners for the 1^st Malaysia Youth Polo Tournament

13.2     The Selangor Polo Club is a venue host of this tournament.

13.3     KLAP reserves the right to display a Sponsor’s logo on the upper right-hand-side of all participating team’s playing jerseys.

13.4     KLAP & TSPC reserve the right to use all images and videos from this tournament for the purposes of promotion of future events.

 

14. GENERAL

14.1      The TOC shall have the right to make any over-riding decisions in the

interest of completing this tournament, should these rules not refer to an explicit situation, and providing the spirit of the 1^st Malaysia Youth Polo Tournament is not compromised.

14.2     The TOC reserves the right to alter, modify or change any regulations at any time.
