Starters Up! After the great fun we had in June, we are following it up with a second run at A Day At The Races, on Sunday 15th October, 2023.

KL Academy of Polo has once again booked the lovely Premier Suite at the Selangor Turf Club for another on-course race day. The Selangor Turf Club will again arrange a private tour of the weighing room and paddock, and to meet with some trainers and jockeys.

The weighing room is where the clerk of the course makes sure the jockeys have the exact weight that has been allocated to each horse by the handicappers. This includes their saddle, reins, and whatever they are going to wear, but not including their body protector, helmet and whip.

The last time we were there, Mr Fin Powrie, the Chief Stipendiary Steward, gave us a few minutes in the Inquiry Room. We saw the various angles that the stewards watch the races from. They showed us an example of interference in the running of a race, when a horse drifted out in the home straight, and bumped another. Mr Powrie then explained the objection or appeal process. It was enlightening.

Everyone was dressed up for the occasion, and as the SLTC chairman Tan Sri Richard Cham remarked, it brought a festive atmosphere to the occasion.

We are once again supported by Nala Designs, with prize-vouchers for the best dressed man and lady in our group.

It should be a really good day, and our friends from Mitavite Asia will be in the Think Big Box right next to our Premier Suite.
