KL Academy of Polo had a wonderful morning with Gymkhana Games on Sunday 19th July.
Starting with a Handy Pony, the course of which was set-up by Coach Ali. 15 riders took part in this competition. Terese Vikse on Grace Kelly was the long time leader, till Kabir Kannan and then Anna Driga Ferguson beat her time by fractions of a second. Last rider Julian Lancia, riding KL Academy of Polo’s Polilla, stormed past them with a superb time of 46.19 to win the Handy Pony class.
The big guns came out to play in the Pole Bending. SEA Games gold medalist Rashid Hasnan was super fast around the poles with Polomito, beating Jennifer Too, with young Julian Lancia in third place, this time on KLAP’s Coyo.
Terese Vikse got a win in the Flag Race, ahead of Jennifer Too. Terese was riding KLAP’s Gatillo. Kannan Periasamy had a good outing, finishing third, riding our Cordiciada.
We ran two divisions of the Barrel Race, one for Polo Students, and the other for polo players.
Terese and Gatillo showed was a good partnership they had formed, racing around the barrels in 23.44. Kannan and Cordiciada did a good job for 2nd place, but the star was Fatemah Mehran, who bravely rode Capo around the course for 3rd place. It was well outside her comfort zone to do this, but Fatemah determined, and got a great result.
Everyone stayed to watch the open division of the Barrel Race. Our SEA Games Polo medalists, Rashid Hasnan and Keith Yeo had entries, and defending champion Jennifer Too was entered too. Peter Abisheganaden took his young horse, Winston in for some training. Julian Lancia played with the big boys, getting a catch ride on Picaflor, which he had never tried around the barrels before.
Rashid Hasnan looked to have it won, with some superb runs on both his horses. Jennifer Too was not to be denied. Riding with immaculate style she pulled out all the stops to win it in 19.18 secs.
The Gymkhana Games was a really fun morning. Thank you to all the competitors for taking part, the volunteers and interns for helping, the coaches for your work, Ms Ernee for the organization, the club staff, and Zack’s Tack for sponsoring.
We would also like to thank Ms Natasha Mustapha for putting together a great photo album that we have shared on our Facebook page here: KLAP-RSPC Gymkhana Games 2020. Thank you also to Terese Vikse who contributed her GoPro videos of her rides, and to everyone who shared photos.
Our next event will be on 23rd August, which will be another training horse show of dressage and jumping. We shall continue to alternate between the more formal equestrian events and fun stuff.
