Polo is a very special sport.  The Malaysia Youth Polo Tournament is the first youth polo tourney ever to be played in Malaysia.

Being an inaugural event, the 1st Malaysia Youth Polo Tournament was in need of a trophy. When the tournament director Peter Abisheganaden approached HRH Dato’ Seri Tengku Baderul Zaman Ibni Sultan Mahmud to become a patron of this event, the President of the Selangor Polo Club did not hesitate.

The Prince went a step further, donating the beautiful challenge trophy to be played for in this tournament annually.

HRH Tengku Baderul took it upon himself not only to donate the trophy but to create something unique. The idea of the trophy came from Toh Puan Seri Hidayah Wan Ismail, Tengku Baderul’s lovely wife. From her idea, the design was then completed by Mariwasa Kraftangan Sdn Bhd, who handcrafted it in Malaysia.

“I am keen to see the emergence of new talent that excel in the sport of polo. Malaysia has a wealth of young talent. There is nothing stopping us from playing polo at a very good level, especially if we can continue to produce young players. My hope is that through such tournaments as the Malaysia Youth Polo Tournament, we cultivate and nurture South East Asian young talent to an international level.”

The Malaysia Youth Tournament trophy, donated by HRH Dato’ Seri Tengku Baderul Zaman Ibni Sultan Mahmud captures the spirit of youth and excellence, embodied in a unique and authentically Malaysian trophy.
